A few days ago I got myself a very special Christmas gift. I love high end high tech and I love connectivity - Hence I treated myself with a Nokia N95 - may be the finest smartphone on the entire global market. A Christmas gift to make my work easier, to allow me full mobile connectivity including connection to my web site and thus server even during travel time.

I chose my N95 based entirely on its features - more in another article - and the N95 has all the features I love to have since years, I missed to have since years -. all except one single feature - an SSH connectivity to my remote server for full mobile server control in emergencies or security breach situations.
I love my new "toy"-tool - it makes life work easier! Whatever makes your work easier also makes your life easier and thus your love-life easier because you have but ONE life and all need to be fun and love filled.

Produced in 1843 the card, and designed by English painter JC Horsley the card was commissioned by businessman Sir Henry Cole. Sir Henry Cole was a prominent businessman of the time and is famous for having modernized the British postal system with the controversial penny post in 1840.
Only 12 cards of an original batch of 1000 remain in existence and in September 2001 an anonymous seller offered one of the cards, which was actually signed by Sir Henry Cole himself for auction with Devizes auctioneers Henry Aldridge.
Auctioneer Alan Aldridge said: “We had received six sealed bids for the Christmas card before the auction started and when the bidding did get under way there were seven people in the room bidding and another four bidding by telephone.”
Originally it was believed that the card would sell for a figure between £4,000 and £6,000 however the price rose steadily as two bidders battled to win the lot and the final selling price was a record breaking £22,250 making it the most expensive Christmas card ever sold.
The buyer was a telephone bidder and remains anonymous however it is believed that the current owner is from London.

Incredible Roy Doty Christmas card
I must have been six or seven years old when I first came across Roy Doty's illustrations in a pile of old Popular Science magazines from the 1960s. Doty's "Wordless Workshop" comics featured a pipe-smoking dad who solved common household problems with ingenious but easy-to-make devices.
A couple of years ago, I learned that Roy was still actively drawing, for magazines and books. I immediately emailed him and asked him to become the illustrator for MAKE magazine's puzzle page, called Aha! (in homage to another hero of mine, Martin Gardner, who wrote two books I treasure: Aha! Insight and Aha! Gotcha, now available in one volume). Roy was happy to oblige, and has illustrated the column ever since. I can't tell you how exciting it is to get the faxes with his rough sketches for the column. Of course, he needs no art direction; he knows exactly how to illustrate the puzzles.
